Profile of the Department

The Physics Department of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women (Autonomous) was established in the year 2003. It offers both UG and PG programme. The department got the first rank in the University in the very first batch of its establishment, till date the Department has secured 63 University ranks. The Department has a well equipped and spacious laboratory for providing excellent practical training to the student. The department has a band of highly qualified and dedicated faculty. Physics is a branch of pure science, dealing with the study and analysis of physical phenomena that take place around us, the nature of the forces responsible for them, and accurate measurement of the physical parameters involved, their interdependence and the laws governing them. This leads to a better understanding of the universe we live in. The laboratory sessions are intended to give the students a hands-on experience of the experiments that enable the verification of the knowledge gained in the theory classes. Students who study physics are prepared to work on forefront ideas in science and technology, in academia, the government, or the private sector. Careers might focus on basic research in astrophysics, cosmology, particle physics, atomic physics, photonics or condensed matter physics, or in more applied research in areas such as renewable energy.

Programme Specific Outcomes

  • To carryout experiments to interpret the laws and concepts of physics .A degree in physics can help you in the workplace once you’ve graduated
  • At the end of the program the students will develop a strong analytical skill and will be able to study critically a physics problem, solve the problem using different tools and present the result or conclusion
  • They will develop a good communications skill such that they can explain complicated physics technical terminologies in simple manner.
  • To understand the theory and consequence of the various physical occurrences.
  • They will be aware of their ethical and moral values and not practice fabrication and plagiarism. They will know of the responsibility of preserving our environment and the world. Finally they will be ready to work indivually as well as in a team.
  • The students will obtain good knowledge in physical science. They will be trained to complete national level tests like UGC-CSIR NET, JEST, GATE, etc., successfully.
