The Ministry of Education introduced the National Service Scheme during 1969. The choice of the timing of its introduction was remarkably auspicious as 1969 was the birth century year of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation to whom service was almost a religion.

 

The symbol of the National Service Scheme, as appearing on the cover is based on the Rath wheel of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signify the movement in life across time and space.

The Motto

The motto or watch word of the National Service Scheme is NOT ME BUT YOU.

History

After independence the University Grants Commission, headed by S. Radhakrishnan, recommended the introduction of voluntary national service in academic institutions. This idea was again considered by the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) at its meeting in January, 1950; after examining the idea and the experiences of other countries in this field, the board recommended that students and teachers should devote time to voluntary manual work. In the draft first Five-Year Plan adopted by the government in 1952, the need for social and labour service by Indian students for one year was stressed. In 1958 Jawaharlal Nehru, in a letter to the chief ministers, considered the idea of social service as a prerequisite for graduation. He directed the Ministry of Education to formulate a suitable scheme for the introduction of national service into academic institutions.

Symbol of NSS

The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space, the symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.The eight bars in the wheel represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Objectives

The broad objectives of NSS are to

  • Understand the community in which they work;
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems
  • Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters
  • Practice national integration and social harmony.

Acadamic Year 2019 - 2020

  • The national service scheme has organized the Degradable and non - degradable waste on 26.7.19. A headed by the the Principal and Vice - Principal. The resource person for this programme was Misses. SANGAVAI, Head department of Bio - Technology.
  • The national service scheme has organized the Plastic waste free campaign awareness rally on 24.9.19. The respected District Collector was started this rally from collector office to old bus stand.
  • The national service scheme has organized the Awareness programme for pregnant women on 24.10.2019. Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College and our National service scheme has organized this programme.

  • Under the grandeur of DHANALAKSHMI SRINIVASAN GROUP OF INSTITUTION, Perambalur, and Part - V has conducted the DENGU AWARENESS PROGRAMME on 26.10.2017. The programme headed by the respected Founder and Honorable Chairman Sir Shri.A.Srinivasan presided over the function. And inaugurated the Rally along with District Collector Mrs. Santha.

  • The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has conducted the Awareness Programme on Menstrual Cycle 22.09.2016 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal at B Block. The resource person for this programme Miss. Selvakumari, Assistant professor, Department of Computer Science.
  • The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has organized the CONSTITUTION DAY PROGRAMME on 20.10.2016. As the celebration of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar who has created the constitution rules. On this basis we have taken Constitution of Voth. The programme was headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal at college ground.

Acadamic Year 2015 - 2016

  • The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has organized the CAMPUS CLEANING PROGRAMME on 21.08.2015 at college campus. The programme was headed by the Principal and the Vice Principal.
  • The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has organized the WORLD LITERACY DAY on 09.09.2015 in B Block. The NSS has conducted the essay competition to our college students to create the awareness of importance of literacy to village children. The entitled by SIGNIFICANCE OF LITERACY TO VILLAGERS around 50 students had participated in this competition.
  • Under the grandeur of DHANALAKSHMI SRINIVASAN COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE FOR WOMEN, PERAMBALUR the NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has organized the HAEMOGLOBIN TEST PROGRAMME on 22.09.2015 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal at Bio chemistry lab. The resource person for this programme J.Sathyapriya, Assistant professor in Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women. She had tested the count of Haemoglobin to our students and talks about iron rich food details to our students.
  • The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has organized the MENSTURAL CYCLE PROGRAMME on 29.09.2015 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal at B Block. The resource person for this programme S.Naimunisha, Assistant professor in Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Nursing, Perambalur.   • The PART-V has conducted the ELECTRICITY CONSERVATION DAT RALLY PROGRAMME on 14.12.2015 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal. The Resource person was R.Kumaresan, Chief Engineer. The Rally begins from the Perambalur new bus stand to J.K.Mahal. NSS Students played drama under the titled, Electricity Conservation. The electricity board members demonstrated the structure of the electric circuit.
  • The PART-V has conducted the NATIONAL VOTERS DAY RALLY PROGRAMME on 25.01.2016 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal. The Rally begins from the Perambalur taluk office to Collector office. The students created the Awareness of Every citizen have rights to vote.
  • The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has organized the BLOOD DONARS DAY PROGRAMME on 14.02.2016 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal. Karthikeyan District Incharge Manager of Perambalur the resource person for this programme . He delivered the importance of the donation of the blood. Conducted the blood test for the blood donors.

  • The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has celebrated the NSS DAY (EXPOSURE VISIT) on 24.09.2014 in Vidayasaram at Senjeri village. The NSS Volunteers went to Senjeri. Donate the rice bags and biscuits to the HIV affected peoples.
  • Under the grandeur of DHANALAKSHMI SRINIVASAN COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE FOR WOMEN, PERAMBALUR the Part - V organized the ELECTRICITY CONSERVATION RALLY Programme on 19.12.2014 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal. The Rally begins from Taluk office to Collector office. The students created the Awareness on Save Electricity to the people.
  • Under the grandeur of DHANALAKSHMI SRINIVASAN COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE FOR WOMEN, PERAMBALUR the NSS has organized 7 days SPECIAL CAMP FROM 6.1.2015 TO 12.1.2015at Ammapalaayam, Melapuliyur and Navalur.

The Rally begins from the Taluk office to Collector office. The students created the Awareness of Every citizen have a right to vote.
  • PART – V has organized the PAINTING EXHIBITION PROGRAMME on 23.02.2015 at college seminar hall. The programme was headed by the Principal and the Vice Principal. The Resource person for this programme was Mr. Tamizharasu, Painter and the Founder of Eranilam Organization showed paintings to the students. The Resource person talks about the importance of the water and how to save the water and as well as tree.
  • PART – V has organized the CAMPUS CLEANING PROGRAMME on 12.03.2015 at college campus. The programme was headed by the Principal and the Vice Principal.
  • Under the grandeur of DHANALAKSHMI SRINIVASAN COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE FOR WOMEN, PERAMBALUR the NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME has organized the ORIENTATION PROGRAMME on 15.07.2015 headed by the respected Principal and Vice Principal at college campus. The Resource person for this programme was Miss. JEYANTHI, Assistant professor, Department of Mathematics. Spoke about the Social Service to be undertaken by NSS volunteers.
