Profile of the Department

The Department of Mathematics of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College Of Arts And Science For Women was established in November 1996. The B.Sc. & M.Sc. Mathematics courses were started in 1996 & 2003 respectively. The Department was elevated into a Research Department in 2005 by offering the M.Phil course (Full - Time). The Department of Mathematics is one of the pioneering departments of the institution. The Department offers high- quality Mathematics with a view to produce good citizens, who would be efficient teachers & high researchers. It is also committed to the cost of quality education in Mathematics that forms the basis for all the other fields, a field growing leaps and bounds. It provides theoretical foundation through high quality teaching complemented by the extensive practical training.

Programme Specific Outcomes

  • To Demonstrate basic manipulative skills in algebra and trigonometry, calculus
  • Students should be able to apply their skills and knowledge that is to translate information presented verbally into mathematical form, select and use appropriate mathematical formulae or techniques in order to process the information and draw the relevant conclusion.
  • To Demonstrate proficiency in linear algebra, real and complex analysis as well as areas of modern, proof-based Mathematics
  • Compute limits and derivatives using their definitions, and use the fundamentals.
  • Students will be aware of and able to develop solution oriented approach towards various social and environmental issues
