Profile of the Department
The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2001 with Postgraduate programme, in the subsequent year the undergraduate program was established in 2002 and also the Department of Bioinformatics was established in the same year with PG programme alone. In the year of 2007 M.Phil Programme in Biotechnology was established. Department of Biotechnology organizes various activities under WILMUT ASSOCIATION and the students are directly involved in projects to gain knowledge of research through departmental research, seminars, and interacting with various scientists who have been invited for national and international conferences in order to sharpen and enhance their reading, writing, critical thinking and research skills to attain their educational, career, and personal goals.
Programme Specific Outcomes
- The Department is to provide academic training and conduct research in the interdisciplinary areas of biotechnology with a particular emphasis on extending the knowledge generated from these studies towards the development of technologies of commercial significance.
- Biotechnology Department emphasizes lifelong learning and social responsibility so that students develop a sense of themselves and gain new social awareness with reference to scientific knowledge.
- Department of Biotechnology provides wide range of courses, to infuse the curriculum with multiple scientific and social perspectives, the Biotechnology program responds to the needs and goals of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women (Autonomous) to diverse student population.
